Lipstick
My beauty resolution for 2020 is to pan makeup; I'm not on a makeup ban, but this girl's beauty space is expanding.... and I forgot to swatch the lipstick.
I wanted this post to go live in 2019 but I didn't feel like blogging even though I wanted to...so 2020.
Makeup Artist Lisa Eldridge launched her first True Velvet Collection with Velvet Ribbon, Velvet Jazz and Velvet Morning back in November 2018. I added Velvet Ribbon to cart and procrastinated for about sometime, and bam! I lost interest thinking I don't wear red everyday. I wanted it because it is similar to Ruby Woo–a blue-based red.

Then I forgot about it, about everything. I was too busy to even look at the swatches of her next launch, but I had a glimpse of Go Lightly. How I overcame my impulsiveness, I do not know. Rainbow spill was my choice but I could hardly make use of it everyday. Then...
This shade is truly universal. I am sure this will look good even on all skin tones. A soft rose pink with a neutral undertone in lucent finish. Love of My Life is cruelty-free and 100% vegan. To put down in one line: This formula is quite unique. I know of lipsticks that form tides because of their balmy textures; this does not and that makes me reach out for this even more, even though I have worn this only twice because I was waiting for the moment. :D
Here is how Love of My Life looks on medium-olive skin tone:
The finish, Luxuriously Lucent, in Lisa's words, indeed feels luxurious and lasts for about 4 hours and leaves a soft rosy tint. I love love love the pale gold and magnetic lipstick case. I have not yet gone lip liner hunting for this one, but I want to find a cruelty-free lip liner to go with this colour. Lisa's suggestions are Lancôme - Le Lip Liner - Pourquoi Pas 317 and Barry M - Lip Liner - Dark Pink 2.
What is the best thing I like about this lipstick? The colour.
The camera fails do justice to the colour and lip swatches here. So I tried clicking under both lighting conditions with all sort of settings. The colour looks deeper in the pictures. In person, this colour is more soft and not as deep and vibrant as in the pictures. Probably a kind of pink that'll flatter all looks from soft to smokey.
To conclude, I love Lisa Eldridge's Luxuriously Lucent Lip Colour in Love of My Life, and I also want the aforementioned shades. I am resisting to get the True Velvet Collection because I cannot wear reds everyday. I am really hoping to finish this one off soon, so I am wearing it everyday, even though I don't wear face makeup everyday and it still flatters my bare face. This alone got me excited enough to spend a fortune to get hold of this.

I paid the shipping, and I had to pay custom duty, and I wasn't happy about it.
But Love of My Life sounds so cheesy! 😏
Dusty Mauve: this colour has to be my current fixation!
I think, I accidentally ordered Rose Dawson instead of Holly Golightly. Holly is one of my favourite literary characters. I don't even remember who I had on my mind, Holly or Rose. I have had this crayon for quite sometime now, but the colour was not my preference then. It turned out brighter than I anticipated. I like the fact that the undertone makes my grey contacts look blue. As funny as it may seem, it is summer and I always turn towards my brights. *wink*
I contacted Sugar Cosmetics for their official statement with regards to being Cruelty-free. Here's what they replied.

Colour
Look at that bullet, it looks mauve-brown-pink, quite subdued and subtle. On swatching, it turned out quite bright. The undertone is neutral, and it does look warm outdoors and cool indoors. On my neutral undertone, it shifts with the light I am in. If the colour naming resembles Kate Winselet's Lipstick in Titanic, it is nowhere close to being a brown that leans orange, like her ginger hair.
Texture
This sets into powder-matte finish and is quite drying. Doubtlessly, this one goes well on well-prepped and hydrated lips. For desert dry lips, a heavy duty balm underneath will save them. For the kind of restless talker I am, this one moves quite a lot and then mysteriously disappears, where? I have no clue. Maybe, the heavy lip balm underneath eats it :DLongevity
Quite average. I have been wearing this to work, and I believe in keeping myself hydrated. It does transfer a lot on drinking. No wonder, the mouth of my water bottles have lipstick stains/residue. Like all other lipsticks, I blot this too and layer to prolong the longevity. To add, it does settle into the lines, which is only thing I dislike about powder mattes.Captured indoors. Blotted one million times! |
I think I will stick to this combination till I have to switch back to clear contacts.
There is something about the colour red...
and a red lipstick.
How instantly it brightens up the face!
I am in love!
The only way I can make red lipstick work for me is by bronzing and using a corrector to out the pink in my skin. Red is never an effortless colour for me. I love clean, minimal base, lots of mascara and red lipstick. Red lipsticks with blue undertone bring out the golden-brown hues in my eyes.
Here are three hues I have pulled out from my collection. All drugstore pricing; cruelty-free as well.
L.A.Colors Pout Lipgloss Matte in Lusty
I am in love with the texture and everything about this, and the fact that this is for $1. The staying power is amazing, and it does not come off in patches (unless you eat something fried). I bought all 11 shades from ShopMissA, boy! I'm glad. Lusty is true red with neutral undertone. I am wearing this in the GIF. Also, I was testing The Ordinary Coverage Foundation and all the new makeup I received. This one is my favourite of these three.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam
I adore the texture of soft matte lip creams. Amsterdam was a part of a set; the undertone is yellow, and the red leans more on the red-orange spectrum. I don't know how exactly I feel about this kind (warm undertone) of red. I wear reds with reds or whites exclusively. Nothing more nothing less sort of thing for me. This does bring out yellow in my skin tone.
Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Silky Red
This is a warm red with orange undertone. The undertones of my face and body are different and hence the colour shows up differently on both. Check out the difference in swatches here, but I definitely don't like this one, for it just slips away. The only way to make this work is to blot and reapply!
This gif is made out of an accidental video. I accidentally turned on video mode and got occupied in clicking pictures on phone. Cropped out from whole seven minutes. I have more reds with more or less with orange undertones. I need a red with blue undertone. Ruby Woo is all I think of, but I need a cruelty-free option, Milani maybe. Ooooh! And that purchase will be celebrated. ;-)
Liquid Lipsticks carry my strongest interest when it comes to lipsticks. I have a drawer full of them and no amount could suffice my inordinate desire for them. This post is an abridgement of all Cruelty-Free Matte Liquid Lipsticks in one.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in 1st Base, Donut, Ouiji, Mars: Photos, Review & Swatches
L-R ColourPop Ultra Matte Ouiji, Donut, 1st Base & Mars |
I wanted ColourPop since November 2014, I wanted their 1st Anniversary LE Super Shock Eyeshadow: Birthday Girl. I wanted ALL My Favourite Colour in ColourpPop Cosmetics.
I was irresolute about their products except for Super Shock Eyeshadows. So I decided to pick these for trials: Two Soft, almost pastel colours and Two Brights, just how I love them! ;-)
I have tested these more than thrice and I am glad I just picked only 4. [Hello Satin Mattes! I'll rescue you soon- The Li Girl. ;)]
1st Base is my most Favourite Colour out of these, And second favourite is Mars, Donut being my least favourite of them.

The swatches are clicked with Bare and Prepped Lips, Unlined and are Uncorrected with concealer.
ColourPop Ultra Matte 1st Base is a Mid-Tone True pink, as described by ColourPop.
1st base is a Neutral Pink and almost looks subdued Mauve. With one single layer of this, looks amazing. My camera could not pick the right hue, I shall use this in one of my makeup looks.
I wore this first time to T's Birthday Dinner and every time, I want a soft Pink Lip. This mid-tone pink come forth as a cool toned Pink on my Neutral under tone. The warmer the undertone, the pinker it shall be.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Donut is a Bright Peach, as described by ColourPop.
I picked this on whim, a warfare between Solow & Donut. ColourPop Ultra Matte Donut is almost Pastel Peach with warm Brown undertone. This clashes with my neutral undertone and washes me out, or so I think. I think, this should be a great colour for summer.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Ouiji is a Bright Coral Red, as described by ColourPop.
If there is, out there, a theory like: Love at First Sight. This will be it for me. It was decided, Bright Corals warped in Pastel would define my liking?
The Colour is as described A Bright Coral with Red undertone. This is brings out more brownness indoors and more yellow outdoors, either in my skin or in itself?

ColourPop Ultra Matte Mars is a Red Fuchsia, as described by ColourPop.
I have Hues of pinks in my wardrobe, and I always pair Pinks with Bold Lips ofcourse Pink!
So I was torn between Highball and Mars, I was sure Highball would turn Violet-ish on me, so I skipped and friendzoned Mars.
I love the Planet too, fiery & misconceived. And so is the colour, Can I just not tell you how much I love this colour?
Cruelty-Free Status: Vegan & Cruelty-Free
Price: $6 for 3.2g/0.11 oz
Texture & Application:
ColourPop Ultra Matte are 100% Matte Liquid Lipsticks. These Dry completely and does not transfer once they set/dry.
They did crack on my lips in winters, irrespective of the lip balm underneath. And it turns streaky and patchy, if you layer or reapply. But ColourPop Ultra Matte Mars is the only colour that refused to crack or turned streaky on application. I should've bought ColourPop Lip Pencils too.
The battle would've been much easier, I assume.
ColourPop Ultra Matte Donut on the other hand, cracked, turned streaky and worn off patchy.
Reason? The Darker shades stain deeper than the soft ones.
You CANNOT apply and expect flawlessness without prepping or conditioning lips.
I use a Lip mask, a night prior and then exfoliate and heavily moisturize them. Before applying, I wipe off everything, every trace of balm or else these ( esp Bright/ Soft Colours accentuate, every thing.)
Bare but Prepped Lips is what makes it long lasting. Any trace Lip balm underneath degrades the longevity and I find it absurd.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Donut with Lip Balm underneath: Takes away the intensity! |
Recommendations: Not for Dry, flaky unprepared Lips. These are not really uncomfortable, but these do crack if you have dry lips. On the other hand, Deeper staining shades are blessings!
I surely love these for occasions where I don't want to touch up. My lips are not dry unless the weather. Own these if you could, at least one to not curb your curiosity.
I have not bought a lipstick since, October 2015. I think the last one was Essence Silky Matt Lip Cream, in anticipation and frenzy.
I was selective of colours I used throughout seasons.
Kate Moss #16 was my absolute favourite for Spring 2015. Though I wore this all the time in spring topped with a clear lip gloss, the colour grew paler as my skin bronzed in summer.
Colorbar Deep Matte Lip Creme in Blush was my absolute summer favourite. It steads well with my bronzed complexion and really brightened up my face from skin to smile. I even wore this during monsoon to brighten up my grey days.
And My Blindfold Lipstick, because I think I reached out for this one on the blank grumpy days.
MAC See Sheer. This soft, muted colour coordinated with almost everything, even my bare face.
I need more such sheer & muted colours I think.
Rest of the times, I relied on Tinted Lip balms and I was able to finish most of them. I bought lots of Liquid Lipsticks & Lip Creams, so for me 2016 favourites would revolve more them.
But I am determined to Finish one, just one Lipstick by the end of 2016 :D just so I could buy more.
And recently, I christened my Chanel Rouge Allure. And the pink is like no other! ;-)

Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Apricot Review, Swatches, Ingredients and Photos
Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Apricot Review, Swatches, Photos
Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Apricot is a sheer Lip gloss with a hint of Apricot. The Apricot tint is soft and turns sheer on application, almost a sheer Coral gloss with a hint of warmth. The Applicator is brush which makes it easier to build the vibrancy or shine. The Gloss does not contain shimmer. [The swatch reflects shimmer transferred from my lipstick.]
Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Apricot in Bright Day Light |
The Texture of Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Apricot is Non-sticky and waterproof. It does not bleed though it transfers. Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Apricot is light and hydrates/moisturises well. I prefer wearing this alone paired with Kohl Eyes. (I rarely wear Kohl and if I do, I make sure it is heavy and smoked.) Though my lips are pigmented or dual discoloured, I don’t mind wearing this alone at all. I also use this layered above few of my Coral Lipsticks.
The Longevity is slightly better than other Lip glosses I’ve tried but not better than Bourjois Rose Exclusif since it leaves a tint. I think it is the viscosity of this Gloss; this stays on for 3 hours straight without meals or water.

Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Apricot Lip swatch |
Pros:
Waterproof, Non-Sticky Formula
Light Texture
Moisturizes & Hydrates well with a slight plumping effect.
Cons:
Unduly High for a Lipgloss
Transfers almost every trace on the glass [See the Water Transfer Test below.]
Availability
The Verdict: I have been wearing this gloss through the monsoon. And it does stay until you either blot down with a tissue or remove with cleanser/makeup remover. Even when it starts fading, the reflect starts to dull but it is as moisturising as it is freshly applied. I have started wearing Lip glosses to moisturise my lips when I’m out and this overfills my moisture urgency. I don’t feel the need to reapply my lip balm for hours notably.
Recommendation: If you prefer Sheer Tinted, light Lip glosses. Wear alone or layer on a Lipstick; excluding the price tag.

Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Silky Red Review, Swatches, Photos
Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Silky Red in Bright Day Light |
Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Silky Red is a warm orange based Red. The Colour is Deep Scarlet Red and is semi-opaque in a single swipe. The base colour is true Red with a Scarlet overtone to it. After blotting with a tissue, a True Red colour with a slight hint of Scarlet remains.
The Texture is mousse like Silky and with a touch of warmth turns oily. It certainly is fleecy and creamy to touch. It does not set to a Matte finish rather it settles into fine lines, it bleeds as well.
I wear almost all lip colours softly blotted and this one is no exception. Blotting does take away the intensity of the Red, but I find it more wearable blotted since I sidestep the Lipstick bleeding.
The applicator is flat rectangular which again makes it easier for me to line on the go. But since this bleeds, I avoid.
Price: 279 INR
Cruelty-Free Status: There is a bit of perplexity from what I have researched. I could not find anything positive in terms of Non Cruelty-free, even after a lot of reading between the lines. I am assuming Essence is NOT Cruelty-Free even though they are not sold in China.
Cons:
~Bleeds
~ It develops tides if you press lips together
~ Accentuates flakes and fine lines
~ Transfers
Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Silky Red blotted excess
The Verdict:
I picked this on a whim of trying the most loved Drugstore brand in Europe. I wanted Coral Calling; I picked this instead since it was out of stock. There was one more Rosy Brown Colour; I assumed it would be too warm for my Neutral Complexion.
The texture is unique, nothing like I have tried before. After blotting, the texture turns powdery, just sits on top with a True red slight stain beneath. Not flattering.
The staying power is poor and it does transfer easily. Also it easily moves. I am introducing Water Glass Lipstick Transfer Test. I hope that would give much into the aspect of staying power as well. I think the weather plays an important role here, because I have seen/read other bloggers raving about this. Certainly not for Hot humid Climate.

Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Silky Red: The Water Glass Transfer Test
Recommendation: I would not recommend it to anyone unless on budget. The texture is pretty workable if lined, filled and blotted well.

Lotus Pure Colours Lipstick in Carnation Review, Photos, Swatches: Cruelty-Free Lipsticks in India
Lotus Pure Colours Lipstick in Carnation is a Rosy Coral colour with slight earthy/peachy tone to it. The Colour is semi-bright and is opaque in a single swipe. The base colour of this lipstick is Rosy Brown and the overlay is semi-bright Coral which adds vibrancy to this lipstick. After blotting with a tissue, the vibrancy is reduced to a soft rosy brown opaque tint.
I prefer using both ways: Vibrant and blotted. But I feel the colour is intense and bright enough for day wear. Blotting takes away much of the vibrancy (and yellowness in Carnation), so make sure you soft blot it.
I don’t like using Lip liners and hate the fact that you hardly find a match. So I basically use the bullet to outline and fill in the Lipstick. And with tricky textures, I use a lip brush to outline and filling followed by blotting and applying directly from the bullet.
Outlined with Lipstick on Brush and filled in. Do you see the tides? |
The Verdict:
I love this Lipstick and prefer this when I have enough time to follow the needed steps to get it right.
The formula is gross, it is creamy and slippy. The texture is hydrating and creamy on application. The creamy overlay slips and transfers when you press your lips and develops tide lines resulting in uneven application. It does not bleed.
This Lipstick does leave a slight tint behind but if removed with a bi-phased remover or Bioderma, every trace of colour comes off. I don’t think there are many Pros or Cons to be listed down apart from the gross texture.
The staying power is average and lasts up to 4 hours without meals. [Most of the lipstick transfers on my water glass/ bottle]
Price: 275 INR
Is Lotus Herbals Cruelty-Free? Yes

Soft Blot: After Blotting the Lipstick softly [It took away the vibrancy and yellowness settling down into Coral Pink with brown] |
Recommendation: I have not read any review mentioning the slippy texture that overlaps and forms tides in the outlines or corners of lips. I guess either this is manufacturing default or just a bad lipstick.
I would try few more shades from the same range since they are affordable, I am willing to try a few more shades.
I like the colour and I believe I can make it work.
*All the swatches are clicked in Bright Daylight.
I want to try their Rosewood, Red Rose and few other colours too. =)
Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Papaya is a coral-orange with soft golden shimmer. The finish is intense, glossy and partly opaque. The texture is lightweight and non-sticky, the coverage is exclusive for a lipgloss. The gloss is comforting and moisturising on the lips and does transfer.
The applicator is Paddle-shaped which makes it easier to line and fill them in one go. I find Paddle-shaped applicators easier than doe-foot applicators. I had a hard time detecting the scent but I think the gloss has slight Vanilla scent to it.
The Full Ingredient list is not mentioned but the Key Ingredients is in print.
Key Ingredients: Tridecyl Trimellitate, Triisostearyl Citrate, Polybutene

Pros of Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Papaya
♥~ Semi-Opaque Intensity

Cons of Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Papaya
❥~ Settle into lines after some time
❥~ Transfers
Single Swipe |
The Verdict: I love Coral-Pinks and Coral-Orange Lipcolours. I mistook Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Papaya as a perfect orange colour but it turned out more Coral Pink on my skin.
Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Papaya is a clear winner in terms of texture and colour intensity but it does transfer easily. Even on pigmented lips like mine, this goes quite opaque in a swipe.
The lasting power is 4 hours and 2 hours with light snacks. It never survived a full meal on me.
So give the lasting power, it does leave a slight tint behind. One thing I noticed about this would be it does not make lips plumper like other glosses do. I guess that makes easier to carry off for girls with fuller lips too.
Most prefer wearing this over lips lined and filled with a lip liner, but I prefer sheer coverage. I like effortless products: Open, Apply and Move.
I am wearing Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Papaya here as well
Multiple swipes |
Recommendations: If you Love Corals, non-sticky Gloss and decent hydration. This would fare on all skin colours and I'm assuming this would look coral orange on darker skin tones.
*Pardon the Clarity, I'm using the Canon 50mm STM lens turns out I couldn't figure the aperture & exposure while clicking. All pictures clicked in Daylight.
