Cruelty free Vegan shampoo | Organic Harvest Daily Shampoo Review and Ingredients Analysis

I purchased this with a curiosity. What surfactant must be used in the formulation? Will this be my Holy Grail Shampoo which is not tested on animals and does not contain animal derived ingredients?
Here is my in-depth analysis on the ingredients. I was excited when I bought this to add to my List of Cruelty free and vegan shampoos.

Organic Harvest claims to use organic and chemical free ingredients. The products made without Parabens, Artifical colourants and animal derived ingredients. The packaging is minimal, almost ordinary.

How I use Organic Harvest Daily Shampoo?

When I first opened the bottle, the liquid with its colour and fragrance reminded me of sugarcane juice. Every time I used it, I wanted to glug down a tall glass of sugarcane juice. The image of sugarcane juice would not leave me alone.
So the first thing I did was looked up the ingredients and researched on them.
I have wasted, a lot of it by using it in exceeding amount. For three weeks I could not decipher the amount that should be used, a lot of it was wasted and lost a lot of hair every time I shampooed. In the hope of that squeaky clean feeling!
But one fine day, I used just a pump and voila there was zero hair fall while shampooing. It is as mild as Baby shampoo. All you need is just one pump for normal-oily hair and two if you have oiled them. My essential oil hair rinses work well with the shampoo. I love the volume I achieve when I use this.
To put the whole review in one sentence, OH Daily Shampoo is the best vegan and cruelty free alternative to SLS based shampoos.
My mother who colours and touch ups her hair every 45 days and thinks that her colour lasts longer.
Mostly, her curly hair is more manageable and frizz free.
I miss the slip while massaging this onto my scalp. That is the only thing I dislike about this shampoo. And missing Ingredients list too!

Organic Harvest Ingredients Analysis

When I could not get the sugarcane juice out of my head, I looked up at the key ingredients mentioned on the bottle. Certified Organic Decyl Glucoside, Glucoside was all I needed.
  •  Aqua
  • Decyl Glucoside is plant derived and biodegradable, derived from corn and cane sugar.
  • Sodium PCA is a humectant; Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid (hydrating agent) additionally functions as skin replenishing agent.
And the key ingredients list comes to an end. Incomplete ingredients, I don't like them!
Organic Harvest does not forget to mention that the Shampoo is Paraben free, Phthalates free, Mineral Oil free, PABAfree, Petrolatum free, Paraffin-free and free of animal ingredients.
And not to forget not tested on animals, not even the raw materials used. The ingredients used in the formulation are USDA-certified organic ingredients as well as Eco-certified ingredients.

Best sls free shampoo for color treated hair

Efficacy

  • Chemical free shampoo? Sulfate free shampoo?
  • I love the body my fine hair has achieved.
  • My scalp does not turn oily until 3rd or 4th day.
  • I can get away with diluting the shampoo for the mildest scalp cleansing.
  • I have used 450 ml in 7 months. I am left with few more washes.
  • If you dislike the fragrance, you can add essential oils to improve its efficacy.
I don't think I have any reason except the missing Ingredient list. My mother thinks this is the best sulfate free shampoo for colour treated hair. I think this is probably the best chemical free shampoo for thin and fine hair.

Price: 795 INR for 500ml

5 Ways to Tame Frizzy Hair ft. Bblunt Climate Control Anti-frizz Leave-in Cream

5 Ways to Tame Frizzy Hair

Frizz taming is the most important part my winter haircare routine. I follow quite a low maintenance haircare routine and prefer spending less time in styling them. I'm just a wash-and-blow dry-kinda girl.

What causes my hair to frizz?
Heat (styling and sun; you think the sun doesn't damage hair?)
Humidity

I heat style my short hair thrice once a week. But what affects my thin hair is humidity if not dryness. The weather is punch-drunk with humidity and dry air in winters. So I follow these 5 Ways to Tame my Frizzy Hair.

1) SLS Free Shampoos
Ever since I have switched to SLS Free Shampoo, I have noticed a major difference in the hair texture. Less frizz and More volume. Read my Hair story HERE.

2) Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
This is one more step that I have been combining with SLS free shampoo routine. Cider Vinegar is highly acidic which helps in taming the frizz and adding volume and shine.

3) Cold Water Rinse
If you cannot follow the above to step, You could rinse the ends of your hair with cold water after you condition them. This seals the open cuticles and seal in the moisture you added to them.
You may add a tablespoon of Glycerine in the water for an extra boost of hydration. Or Simply choose Glycerine based Shampoo or Conditioner

4) Heat Protectant Spray
I think styling your hair without one is a sin. When I wouldn't use one, I would often escape the heat styling aftermath with the chopping of the damage. Like it was a war between the strands and the rod, either one would come out alive.

5) Bblunt Climate Control Anti-frizz Leave-in Cream*
I love the sleek hair, poker straight. This smells incredibly good, a floral accent I love! I use this as a styling cream as well as postfix. This works fine as a heat protectant. I find when I apply this before blow drying, it amplifies up the volume with a sleeker outcome. This does keep me frizz free for 6 hours straight (inclusive of being out in sun & traveling hours.) The Nature's Co Nori Hair Cleanser: Review & On being Cruelty-Free and SLS Free Shampoo.

I picked this from their store in Palladium somewhere in 2014 when I embraced 'No shampoo' method. While I was checking their products, I took a brief whiff of this one and I bought it, thoughtless only later I did realise this is unlike shampoos I have used.

Initially, when I was using the Nori Hair Cleanser, the results were vague. My hair remained dull, lacklustre and dry mostly and they would tangle. I assumed that this variant is not suiting my hair. I decided to use this one for 10 more days and after a week; I started to notice a difference in my hair scalp and volume. My scalp would stay squeaky clean and non-oily up to three days, usually, my scalp turns oily within a day. And the lustre bloomed, wash after wash. After 30-45 days of continuous usage (every alternate day), I noticed my strands were silkier and appeared thicker and if I left them loose, there was noticeable volume. Except all this, I love the soothing fragrance in my bath. I find it refreshing and nerve soothing.
I did not use Hair conditioner with this shampoo; I would use two-three drops of Jojoba oil on my hair ends.
I sported bangs back then and would tie my hair back into a ponytail. My crown area lacks volume and my bangs would create havoc with being unruly. My strands were more defined and bouncy; I had less bad hair days.

I was dubious about the W/S base so I dropped an email regarding the same to The Nature's Co team and here is their reply.

Our shampoos don't contain any Parabens or chemical preservatives. We do use naturally derived surfactant from Coconut Oil as the main cleanser though a small amount of Sodium Laureth Sulphate is used in the product for compatibility with the viscosity modifier, as alone it is difficult to get good viscosity. Coconut oil based surfactant imparts cleaning efficacy since it is a mild surfactant and is considered safe to be used in the product.
Also, our Conditioners are free from Parabens or Silicones.
Apart from above we are not using any other synthetic chemicals or preservatives which are not considered safe to be used.
I used clarifying shampoo when I would oil my hair and Nori Hair Cleanser every alternate day, No conditioner and no silicone based serums.

Ingredient List for Nori Hair Cleanser:
Nori Extract 5%
Pro Vitamin b5 1%
Apple Cider Vinegar 0.5%
Aloe Vera Extract 1.5%
W/S Base, Aroma, Natural Preservatives and Food Grade Colors (FD & C) Q.S

I am still dubious with respect to ‘Coconut Oil based surfactants’ and this is a cross between Soulflower soaps & Tresseme Shampoo for me. You can google about the same but as per my research the surfactants are mild SLS based surfactants. I have tried Soaping and I am aware of the results. I do switch to Tresseme only on days I heat style my hair to avoid tangles and breakage. This does not easily adapt to the ingredient/product changes in my daily routine.
Though the price is steep, you can check out for discount or sales. I did get mine for 10% off.

Cruelty-Free Status:
Cruelty-Free [PETA Certified]
And most/all of The Nature’s Co products are Vegan as well.

Price: 795 INR for 250ml

Recommendations: I love the results but then the deceptive ingredient list withholds me from repurchasing. I emptied this in October and I have already switched to Soulflower shampoo bars for life. And the tedious routine is worth for lifeless and thinning hair like mine. I would repurchase only if they list down the exact INCI names.

Nioxin Thinning Hair System 1 Kit Review & Price in India

Nioxin Thinning Hair System 1 Kit Review & Price in India

I did not Shampoo my Hair since the end of the year 2013. I have had a phase of “No Shampoo” which had great results on my thin hair.
I used Soulflower Shampoo Bars from November 2013 till February 2015. I switched to using Organix Biotin recently.
So when I switched to Nioxin since 16th May 2015 to present, I have been observing even the tiniest difference I feel in my hair and scalp. I jotted down pointers everyday in Evernote to keep my conclusive decision updated.
As adviced by Harsh, I did not use anything except these THREE products. And I blow dried only Once a week in the course. At times I missed my hair oiling sessions and Serum for detangling since I was hopeful about the results. Well read till the end to know my exact contemplative thoughts.

Where are the differences I notice currently:
In present tense because I’m yet to finish the kit.
~ Squeaky Clean scalp
~ Every hair had its own dimension
~ Hair collectively appeared fuller (my hair mostly are flat)
~ I had more fly aways than I could have handled with my two hands.
~ I simply noticed my hair growth is faster.
But
~ My hair tangles a lot
~ My hair ends resembles Broom bristles to be precise.
~ The volume was missing, though they appeared fuller. There’s a difference between both. (Check Week 4 Picture)

Technologies: BioAMP, Transactive Delivery System & Activ- Renewal (sic)

There are other products available to be teamed with the essentials like Nioxin Deep Hair Repair Masque, Nioxin Density Restoration & Dermabrasion Treatment.
I am sure my dry ends or bristled hair issues would have been tackled with repair masque. And the tangles issue with the serum.
And the moment of truth:
When I quit shampooing my hair, I used baking soda, Apple cider vinegar rinses or simply freshly brewed green tea with Rosemary and lavender essential oil rinses once a week. This method worked miracles for my thin hair. Here’s a picture I clicked somewhere in mid 2014, 6 months down ‘No shampoo’ method. My hair had body and they did appear fuller, even my pony tail appeared fuller.
Moreover my hair grew faster than it normally did perhaps because of Lavender, Rosemary & Peppermint Oil massages. My hair became course and brittle due to styling them twice-thrice a week hence I switched to Organix in February 2015.

Nioxin does not promote hair growth, reduce or stop hair fall. Nioxin doesn’t help in growing back reduced hair including receding hairline Nioxin solely makes the hair appear fuller, which is what ‘No shampoo’ method does too. A day old washed hair appear bouncier than freshly washed hair.

Here is a picture to show you the difference:

A week after Nioxin usage, before shower
4 Weeks later Nioxin, after shower
I love the Nioxin Cleanser; it is cooling and leaves a squeaky feeling behind. But the conditioner is not moisturizing/hydrating enough for my dry, brittle hair.

My concerns of not switching to Nioxin:
~ Shampooing, Conditioning everyday is not what I am comfortable with.
~ I cannot live without Oil massages on insomniac nights
~ I particularly look bald if I don’t use dry shampoo on bad hair days.
~ The Entire range is expensive added the monthly scalp facials every 40 days.
~ I have to style my hair to look human, unmistakably.

Price: 3000 INR excluding Taxes. The kit would last for 45-60 days depending on the hair length.

Cruelty Free status: Not Cruelty Free

Who would I recommend Nioxin to?
If you face hair thinning issues alone. (Don’t include receding hairline or hairfall).
You agree to follow the regimen every day.

I would recommend Scalp Facial or Microdermabrasion to everybody because the results are instant.
The bottom line is that I got the same results (fuller and denser appearing hair) with ‘No shampoo’ method and A sparkling scalp with fuller looking hair with Nioxin.
I personally adore the Bounce and volume I got from ‘No shampoo’ method and hair rinses.

Pardon my Scalpfie picture quality, the process turned out tougher than I imagined.

A Bizarre tip for Split Ends!

The other night I was studying (post midnight) and filing my nails. I have had my hair loose, a bit limp with the Shea butter mask I had applied a day before. I noticed two split ends from the corner of my eyes; I wondered why I had them since I renounced Heat stylers (excluding the Philips Kerashine) for the hair.

How to get rid of split ends,A Bizarre tip for Split Ends

And the next thing that I did was inquisitive

I took the hair shafts between my fingers, resting on my palm. I filed the latter half of the ends (Split ends) in gentle downward strokes.
I Filed those split ends off gently and rubbed in some argan oil to the hair ends before sleeping.

I don’t want to think about the science behind damaging my cuticles by filing them. I am struggling to grow my Hair long and chopping them would be a disappointment.
I am sure it is absurd to file your split ends, but maybe when you do so you are opening your hair end shaft to absorb the Oil or Serum you are going to apply better just like cutting or using warm water?
And applying Oil or Serum is to condition the hair shaft, if damaged.
I am sure there would be other substitutes out there like Keratin rich Hair mask, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coconut Oil or any Oil that would repair.

Is it the Oil/Serum made my split ends look less visible? It would be hard to tell the difference.
I wonder this filing would work on curly hair; I am looking forward to ask someone to try it.
But for now, I am going to file away my split ends. And I hope that would either conclude with a Quick Fix that would work or I would get to learn something from it (my inquisitive brain).

What are the other Bizarre Quick fixes for Split ends that are buzzing? I want to know. I am inquisitive!
